Matthew Dale Mortensen, affectionately known as Matt, was born on April 27, 1978, and passed away on May 25, 2023. A lifelong resident of Pilot Hill, California, Matthew's life was a testament to the love he had for his family, friends, and his passion for panning for gold. He was a cherished son, brother, and friend, and his memory will live on through the lives of those he touched.\n\nThough Matthew never married and never held employment, his life was rich with experiences and the love he shared with his family and friends. Matthew was blessed with a strong family, and his relationships were built on a foundation of faith and love. A verse from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Matthew's religion, encapsulates the spirit he embodied: "Charity never faileth" (1 Corinthians 13:8). Though not an active member of the church, Matthew exemplified the values of kindness, patience, and love for others. He found joy and solace in panning for gold, an activity that brought him closer to the natural beauty of his surroundings and his community.\n\nMatthew is survived by his mother, Corinne Mortensen; his sisters, Katrina Bosworth, Mesja Weinberger, and Sarah Spears; and a close family member, Corrine Mortensen. He was preceded in death by his father, Stephen Mortensen, and his brothers, Nathan and Loron Mortensen. Matthew's love for his family and friends will continue to be felt and cherished as his memory lives on.\n\nWe invite you to share your memories of Matthew and upload photos to the memorial page, so that we may all celebrate his life and the unique qualities that made him the person we all knew and loved.
